David Wiesner
David Wiesner

Author/illustrator David Wiesner started his career when he was inspired by his varied surroundings as a child. He grew up in a New Jersey suburb bordered by a swamp, a cemetery and a landfill, which all seemed like exotic lands that fed his imagination. As he got older, books and art continued to feed his imagination, creating a love of detail.

Those early beginnings led to David winning the Caldecott Medal three times, in 1992 for his picture book TUESDAY, in 2002 for his picture book THE THREE PIGS, and in 2006 for his picture book FLOTSAM. Three of his other books, SECTOR 7, FREE FALL, and MR. WUFFLES!, are Caldecott Honor books, and those are just a few of the awards David has been given.
