The Booking Biz is excited to welcome two fantastic creators into our family, New York Times best-selling author April Henry and singer-songwriter, educator and storyteller Randy Preston.
April Henry is the author of 21 mysteries and thrillers, most recently the young-adult thriller COUNT ALL HER BONES, the highly anticipated sequel to her YALSA award-winning novel GIRL, STOLEN.
With so many books in her roster, you might think April spends all her time writing, but she also trains in kung fu, Brazilian jiujitsu and other martial arts. No wonder she writes such kick-ass characters.
When she visits schools, April tells kids about the importance of tenacity in writing and how fun research can be, like attending the Writers Police Academy and taking part in the FBI Citizen’s Academy. She also shows teachers and librarians how mysteries and thrillers are gateway drugs for reluctant readers.
Randy Preston tells stories through song. He was raised in England and Kenya, where he developed a love of the myths and legends of the places he has lived. Later he became fascinated by the stories and songs of his grandmother’s tribe, the Piscataway Native American people who are local to Maryland and northern Virginia.
With his love of stories and a degree in English Literature, Randy developed an up-lifting and entertaining discussion about culture, history and how kids can explore them. Through music and interactive storytelling, he shows that when we share stories, myths and legends, we discover the best of ourselves and each other.
