AWARDS

Salina Yoon‘s picture book BE A FRIEND won the Anna Dewdney Read-Together Honor Award, which celebrates books with compassion, empathy, and connections.

BOOK NEWS

Dear Substitute written by Liz Garton Scanlon and Audrey VernickLiz Garton Scanlon, co-writing with Audrey Vernick, has a new picture book coming out June 19. DEAR SUBSTITUTE is illustrated by Chris Raschka and tells the story of a student who bristles when substitute teacher Miss Pelly comes to class and changes the routine. This funny book, written in a series of epistolary poems, is great for children who are nervous about new experiences. DEAR SUBSTITUTE has received starred reviews from Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books, Horn Book and Publishers Weekly, which said, “Every page offers a giggle.”

SoloA Summer Reads Program with YA novel in verse SOLO by Kwame Alexander and Mary Rand Hess is coming soon. Participants can sign-up on Kwame’s website. The program includes special videos and readings by Kwame, an educator’s guide and more! Read SOLO with Kwame from the week of June 11, 2018 to the week of July 2, 2018.
