EVENTS
Carmen Oliver is teaching the six-week class Perfecting the Picture Book at The Writing Barn in Austin starting on Jan. 9. Previous students of this class include Candy Wellins, Debbie Zapata and Vanessa Roeder, who went on to sign with literary agents, sign publishing contracts and even publish their debut picture book. BOOK NEWS
Mitali Perkins will delight readers in September 2019 with the release of her first picture book, BETWEEN US AND ABUELA: A FAMILY STORY FROM THE BORDER, illustrated by Sara Palacios. Mitali recently had the opportunity to participate in the cross-border celebration of La Posada Sin Fronteras in Friendship Park in the San Diego-Tijuana region, an event that inspired this story. Her cover reveal interview with Matthew Winner gives a behind the scenes look into the illustrations of this story and what inspired Mitali to write a picture book showing “that love finds a way to cross borders.” Read the interview here.
