Ammi-Joan Paquette’s middle-grade novel THE TRAIN OF LOST THINGS is a finalist in the Ontario Library Association’s Silver Birch Award.
The upcoming picture book THE BELL RANG by James E. Ransome has received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly. “Bold, painterly spreads by Ransome give shape to the lives of a slave family whose days are ruled by the overseer’s bell,” the review writes. The story looks at the effects on a slave family after one of them escapes. PW says, “Ransome’s gracefully sculpted figures give Ben’s family heroic stature; his story makes their hunger for freedom palpable. ” THE BELL RANG comes out Jan. 15 from Atheneum/Simon & Schuster.
