Gorgeous New Picture Books

Well-written and beautifully illustrated picture books engage readers of all ages in story. We are thrilled to share the news of more wonderful picture books created by our clients that appeared on shelves this spring.

Bears Make the Best Reading Buddies by Carmen OliverCarmen Oliver, founder of The Booking Biz and author extraordinaire, launched her debut BEARS MAKE THE BEST READING BUDDIES (Capstone) into the world this past April! In this fun book, Adelaide is convinced bears have all the qualifications needed to make the best reading buddies, but she’ll first need to convince her teacher of this. Young readers will relate to the joys and challenges of reading depicted in this tale, be delighted by the illustrations of Jean Claude, and, as Kirkus Reviews said, “surely want their own large brown reading buddies after listening to this book.”

Whoosh: Lonnie Johnson's Super-Soaking Stream of Inventions by Chris Barton and Don TateJust in time for summer fun, the dynamic author-illustrator team of Chris Barton and Don Tate united again to launch WHOOSH! LONNIE JOHNSON’S SUPER-SOAKING STREAM OF INVENTIONS (Charlesbridge). This biography of African-American Lonnie Johnson, the inventor of the Super-Soaker, has received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly. The book has a playful air with digitally illustrated pages, and is sure to make a splash with readers! Kirkus said the book is “a delightfully child-friendly and painfully necessary diversification of the science field,” while Booklist called the book “an engaging and inspiring addition to STEM collections.”

The Two Tims by David ElliottAuthor David Elliott released a story of friendship with picture book THE TWO TIMS (Candlewick), a tale of two friends who face the challenge of opening their world and their hearts to include a new friend. A common experience for many children, this story, with the expressive illustrations by Gabriel Alborozo, resonates with many young readers. School Library Journal said the book “is a good choice for emerging readers,” and Kirkus Reviews said the “simple telling may resonate in ways others do not.”

We look forward to even more releases from these wonderful authors and illustrators in the future.
